The City of Selkirk has a comprehensive Emergency Preparedness Program. The Program participants include all the departments that operate within the City of Selkirk, RCMP, Fire Department and the Regional Health Authority. Selkirk also has an Emergency Measures Support Team that is made up of volunteers from the community that are being trained to fill required positions in the event of a large scale emergency.
The foundation of this program is the City of Selkirk Emergency Plan. The Emergency Plan is one of the most comprehensive municipal emergency plans in the province and provides preplanned strategies in the event of a natural or man-made disaster to protect life, property and the environment.
The City of Selkirk has its own Emergency Coordinator who continuously updates the Emergency Plan, provides Emergency Preparedness training and information to City Staff, volunteers, local business and the public. The Coordinator is also responsible for coordinating the municipal response in the event of a large-scale emergency.
If you require Emergency Preparedness information for your family or business please call the Emergency Coordinator at 785-4945
